Said the red cloaked croneA
In a whispered moanA
-
The dead man was limpB
When laid in his chestC
Yea limp and whyD
But to signifyD
That the grave will crimpB
Ere next year's sunE
Yet another oneE
Of those in that houseF
It may be the bestC
For its endless drowseF
-
Said the brown shawled dameG
To confirm the sameG
-
And the slothful fliesF
On the rotting fruitH
Have been seen to wearI
While crawling thereI
Crape scarves by eyesF
That were quick and acuteH
As did those that had pitchedJ
On the cows by the pailsF
And with flaps of their tailsF
Were far away switchedJ
-
Said the third in plaidK
Each word being weighedL
-
And trotting doesF
In the park in the laneM
And just outsideN
The shuttered paneM
Have also been heardO
Quick feet as lightP
As the feet of a spriteP
And the wise mind knowsF
What things may betideN
When such has occurredO
-
Cried the black craped fourthQ
Cold faced as the northQ
-
O though giving suchR
Some head room I smileS
At your falteringsF
When noting those thingsF
Round your domicileS
For what what can touchR
One whom riven of allS
That makes life gayT
No hints can appalS
Of more takings awayT
