I Knew A Lady (club Song) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDDE FGGF HGGH

I knew a lady when the daysA
Grew long and evenings goldenedB
But I was not emboldenedB
By her prompt eyes and winning waysA
-
And when old Winter nipt the hawsC
Another's wife I'll beD
And then you'll care for meD
She said and think how sweet I wasE
-
And soon she shone as another's wifeF
As such I often met herG
And sighed How I regret herG
My folly cuts me like a knifeF
-
And then to day her husband cameH
And moaned Why did you flout herG
Well could I do without herG
For both our burdens you are to blameH
