God's Education Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAAB CDCCD EAEEA FGFFG

I saw him steal the light awayA
That haunted in her eyeB
It went so gently none could sayA
More than that it was there one dayA
And missing by and byB
-
I watched her longer and he stoleC
Her lily tincts and roseD
All her young sprightliness of soulC
Next fell beneath his cold controlC
And disappeared like thoseD
-
I asked Why do you serve her soE
Do you for some glad dayA
Hoard these her sweets He said O noE
They charm not me I bid Time throwE
Them carelessly awayA
-
Said I We call that crueltyF
We your poor mortal kindG
He mused The thought is new to meF
Forsooth though I men's master beF
Theirs is the teaching mindG
