Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ BKBK LMNM OPOP QFQF RSRS TUTU PBPB

I towered far and lo I stood withinA
nbsp nbsp nbsp The presence of the Lord Most HighB
Sent thither by the sons of earth to winA
nbsp nbsp nbsp Some answer to their cryB
-
nbsp nbsp nbsp The Earth say'st thou The Human raceC
nbsp nbsp nbsp By Me created Sad its lotD
Nay I have no remembrance of such placeC
nbsp nbsp nbsp Such world I fashioned notD
-
nbsp nbsp nbsp O Lord forgive me when I sayE
nbsp nbsp nbsp Thou spak'st the word and mad'st it allF
The Earth of men let me bethink me YeaE
nbsp nbsp nbsp I dimly do recallF
-
nbsp nbsp nbsp Some tiny sphere I built long backG
nbsp nbsp nbsp Mid millions of such shapes of mineH
So named It perished surely not a wrackG
nbsp nbsp nbsp Remaining or a signH
-
nbsp nbsp nbsp It lost my interest from the firstI
nbsp nbsp nbsp My aims therefor succeeding illJ
Haply it died of doing as it durstI
nbsp nbsp nbsp Lord it existeth stillJ
-
nbsp nbsp nbsp Dark then its life For not a cryB
nbsp nbsp nbsp Of aught it bears do I now hearK
Of its own act the threads were snapt wherebyB
nbsp nbsp nbsp Its plaints had reached mine earK
-
nbsp nbsp nbsp It used to ask for gifts of goodL
nbsp nbsp nbsp Till came its severance self entailedM
When sudden silence on that side ensuedN
nbsp nbsp nbsp And has till now prevailedM
-
nbsp nbsp nbsp All other orbs have kept in touchO
nbsp nbsp nbsp Their voicings reach me speedilyP
Thy people took upon them overmuchO
nbsp nbsp nbsp In sundering them from meP
-
nbsp nbsp nbsp And it is strange though sad enoughQ
nbsp nbsp nbsp Earth's race should think that one whose callF
Frames daily shining spheres of flawless stuffQ
nbsp nbsp nbsp Must heed their tainted ballF
-
nbsp nbsp nbsp But say'st thou 'tis by pangs distraughtR
nbsp nbsp nbsp And strife and silent sufferingS
Deep grieved am I that injury should be wroughtR
nbsp nbsp nbsp Even on so poor a thingS
-
nbsp nbsp nbsp Thou should'st have learnt that Not to MendT
nbsp nbsp nbsp For Me could mean but Not to KnowU
Hence Messengers and straightway put an endT
nbsp nbsp nbsp To what men undergoU
-
nbsp nbsp nbsp Homing at dawn I thought to seeP
nbsp nbsp nbsp One of the Messengers standing byB
Oh childish thought Yet oft it comes to meP
nbsp nbsp nbsp When trouble hovers nighB
