I MARKED her ruined huesA
Her custom straitened viewsA
And asked Can there indwellB
My AmabelB
-
I looked upon her gownC
Once rose now earthen brownC
The change was like the knellB
Of AmabelB
-
Her step's mechanic waysD
Had lost the life of May'sD
Her laugh once sweet in swellB
Spoilt AmabelB
-
I mused Who sings the strainE
I sang ere warmth did waneE
Who thinks its numbers spellB
His AmabelB
-
Knowing that though Love ceaseF
Love's race shows undecreaseF
All find in dorp or dellB
An AmabelB
-
I felt that I could creepG
To some housetop and weepG
That Time the tyrant fellB
Ruled AmabelB
-
I said the while I sighedH
That love like ours had diedH
Fond things I'll no more tellB
To AmabelB
-
But leave her to her fateI
And fling across the gateI
'Till the Last Trump farewellB
O Amabel '-
