To Thaddeus Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFEF EGEG DHDI JKJK LMCN O

Farewell loved youth for still I hold thee dearA
Though thou hast left me friendless and aloneB
Still still thy name recals the heartfelt tearC
That hastes MATILDA to her wish'd for homeD
-
Why leave the wretch thy perfidy hath madeE
To journey cheerless through the world's wide wasteF
Say why so soon does all thy kindness fadeE
And doom me thus affliction's cup to tasteF
-
Ungen'rous deed to fly the faithful maidE
Who for thy arms abandon'd every friendG
Oh cruel thought that virtue thus betray'dE
Should feel a pang that death alone can endG
-
Yet I'll not chide thee And when hence you roamD
Should my sad fate one tear of pity moveH
Ah then return this bosom's still thy homeD
And all thy failings I'll repay with loveI
-
Believe me dear at midnight or at mornJ
In vain exhausted nature strives to restK
Thy absence plants my pillow with a thornJ
And bids me hope no more on earth for restK
-
But if unkindly you refuse to hearL
And from despair thy poor MATILDA haveM
Ah don't deny one tributary tearC
To glisten sweetly o'er my early graveN
-
MATILDAO
