To Thaddeus.[1] Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFEF EGEG DHDI JKJK LMCN OFarewell loved youth for still I hold thee dear | A |
Though thou hast left me friendless and alone | B |
Still still thy name recals the heartfelt tear | C |
That hastes MATILDA to her wish'd for home | D |
- | |
Why leave the wretch thy perfidy hath made | E |
To journey cheerless through the world's wide waste | F |
Say why so soon does all thy kindness fade | E |
And doom me thus affliction's cup to taste | F |
- | |
Ungen'rous deed to fly the faithful maid | E |
Who for thy arms abandon'd every friend | G |
Oh cruel thought that virtue thus betray'd | E |
Should feel a pang that death alone can end | G |
- | |
Yet I'll not chide thee And when hence you roam | D |
Should my sad fate one tear of pity move | H |
Ah then return this bosom's still thy home | D |
And all thy failings I'll repay with love | I |
- | |
Believe me dear at midnight or at morn | J |
In vain exhausted nature strives to rest | K |
Thy absence plants my pillow with a thorn | J |
And bids me hope no more on earth for rest | K |
- | |
But if unkindly you refuse to hear | L |
And from despair thy poor MATILDA have | M |
Ah don't deny one tributary tear | C |
To glisten sweetly o'er my early grave | N |
- | |
MATILDA | O |
