To Margaret Jane H----, On Her Birth-day, 17 June. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEFGGHHII JJKKDDLM

Thou art indeed a lovely flowerA
And I just like the fleeting hourA
Which few will heed on folly's brinkB
So rarely deigns the world to thinkB
Yet ere I go child of my heartC
One faithful offering I'll impartC
To thee thy parents' sole delightD
To me an angel pure as lightD
Sent on this earth to cheer and blessE
Like sunbeam in a wildernessF
With fascination's form and faceG
And all the charms that please and graceG
A guileless heart a lovely mindH
A temper ardent yet refinedH
And in the early dawn of youthI
Taught to love honour faith and truthI
-
Ah these when all the transient joysJ
Of idle life when all its toysJ
Shall fade like mist before the sunK
Yet ere thy little day is doneK
Shall give that calm that true delightD
Which gilds the darkling hues of nightD
The sunset of a well spent dayL
A glorious immortalityM
