A little raking roguish creature | B |
And in that face may still be seen | C |
Each laughing love's bewitching feature | B |

For thou hast stolen many a heart | D |
And robb'd the sweetness of the rose | E |
Placed on that cheek it doth impart | D |
More lovely tints more fragrant blows | E |

Yes thou art Nature's favourite child | F |
Array'd in smiles seducing killing | G |
Did Joseph live you'd drive him wild | F |
And set his very soul a thrilling | G |

A poet much too poor to live | H |
Too poor in this rich world to rove | I |
Too poor for aught but verse to give | J |
But not thank God too poor to love | K |

Gives thee his little doggerel lay One | L |
truth I tell in sorrow tell it | M |
I'm forced to give my verse away | N |
Because alas I cannot sell it | M |

And should you with a critic's eye | O |
Proclaim me 'gainst the Muse a sinner | B |
Reflect dear girl I that such as I | O |
Six times a week don't get a dinner | B |

And want of comfort food and wine | P |
Will damp the genius curb the spirit | Q |
These wants I'll own are often mine But | Q |
can't allow a want of merit | Q |

For every stupid dog that drinks | R |
At poet's pond nicknamed divine | P |
Say what he will I know he thinks | R |
That all he writes is wondrous fine | P |
