The Night-blowing Cereus Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEFGG

Can it be true so fragrant and so fairA
To give thy perfumes to the dews of nightB
Can aught so beautiful despise the glareA
And fade and sicken in the morning lightB
-
Yes peerless flower the Heavens alone exhaleC
Thy fragrance while the glittering stars attestD
And incense wafted by the midnight galeC
Untainted rises from thy spotless breastD
-
How like that Faith whose nature is apartE
From human gaze to love and work unseenF
Which gives to God an undivided heartE
In sorrow steadfast and in joy sereneF
That night flower of the soul whose fragrant powerG
Breathes on the darkness of the closing hourG
