The Beggar Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEFEFGG

Of late I saw him on his staff reclinedA
Bow'd down beneath a weary weight of woesB
Without a roof to shelter from the windA
His head all hoar with many a winter's snowsB
All trembling he approach'd he strove to speakC
The voice of misery scarce my ear assail'dD
A flood of sorrow swept his furrow'd cheekC
Remembrance check'd him and his utt'rance fail'dD
For he had known full many a better dayE
And when the poor man at his threshold bentF
He drove him not with aching heart awayE
But freely shared what Providence had sentF
How hard for him the stranger's boon to craveG
And live to want the mite his bounty gaveG
