Sonnet To Charity. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCADEEDFGGFHHOh best belov'd of heaven on earth bestow'd | A |
To raise the pilgrim sunk with ghastly fears | B |
To cool his burning wounds to wipe his tears | C |
And strew with amaranths his thorny road | A |
Alas how long has superstition hurl'd | D |
Thine altars down thine attributes revil'd | E |
The hearts of men with witchcrafts foul beguil'd | E |
And spread his empire o'er the vassal world | D |
But truth returns she spreads resistless day | F |
And mark the monster's cloud wrapt fabric falls | G |
He shrinks he trembles 'mid his inmost halls | G |
And all his damn'd illusions melt away | F |
The charm dissolv'd immortal fair and free | H |
Thy holy fanes shall rise celestial Charity | H |
