Sonnet. On The Death Of Toussaint L'ouverture. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDECECFF| His weary warfare done his woes forgot | A |
| Freedom thy son oppress'd so long is free | B |
| He seeks the realms where tyranny is not | A |
| And those shall hail him who have died for thee | B |
| Immortal TELL receive a soul like thine | C |
| Who scorn'd obedience to usurp'd command | D |
| Who rose a giant from a sphere indign | C |
| To tear the rod from proud oppression's hand | D |
| Alas no victor wreaths enzon'd his brow | E |
| But freedom long his hapless fate shall mourn | C |
| Her holy tears shall nurse the laurel bough | E |
| Whose green leaves grace his consecrated urn | C |
| Nursed by these tears that bough shall rise sublime | F |
| And bloom triumphant 'mid the wrecks of time | F |
