Rhyme Scheme: ABCCBDD EFGGFHH DIJJIKK LMNNMOO

Beautiful Boy thy heavenward thoughtsA
Are pictured in thine eyesB
Thou hast no taint of mortal birthC
Thy communing is not of earthC
Thy holy musings riseB
Like incense kindled from on highD
Ascending to its native skyD
-
And such a head might once have gracedE
The infant Samuel whenF
Call'd by the favour of his GodG
The youthful priest the Temple trodG
Beloved of Heaven and menF
The same devotion on his browH
As brightens in thy forehead nowH
-
Or thou may'st seem to Fancy's eyeD
One borne by arms DivineI
One whom on Earth a Saviour bless'dJ
And on whose features left impress'dJ
The Contact's holy signI
A light a halo and a graceK
So pure th' expression of that faceK
-
Or has the Painter's skill aloneL
Such grace and glory givenM
Clothed thee with attributes which seemN
Creations of an angel's dreamN
To raise the soul to HeavenM
No as he found thee he arrayedO
And Genius taught what God had madeO
