Lines, Written On Seeing The Children Of The Naval Asylum.[1] Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ

Sons of Renown ye heirs of matchless fameA
Whose Sires in Glory's path victorious fellB
Adding new honors to the British nameA
That future ages shall with transport tellB
-
Yet not unpity'd nor forgot they dieC
For gen'rous Britons to their mem'ry raiseD
A tribute will their children's wants supplyC
A living monument of grateful praiseD
-
To the sad mother who in speechless griefE
Mourn'd o'er her infant's unprotected stateF
Benignant charity affords reliefE
And bids her bosom glow with joy elateF
-
Great your reward who thus impassion'd moveG
By nature taught the heart's persuasive playH
Such deeds your God with pleasure shall approveG
And endless blessings cheer your parting dayH
-
What better boon can feeling hearts bestowI
What nobler ornament can deck our isleJ
Than one that robs the wretched of their woeI
And makes the widow and the orphan smileJ
