Anacreontic. "the Wisest Men Are Fools In Wine." Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GFG H

The wisest men are fools in wineA
Experience makes us thinkB
Its magic spells are so divineA
We reason yet we drinkB
-
How short's the longest life of manC
How soon its brightest laurels fadeD
Then as our life is but a spanC
Let all its hours be joyous madeD
-
Wine o'er the ardent restless mindE
Entwines its poppy chainF
A solace then the wretched findE
In fictions of the brainF
-
Oh as the charmed glass we sipG
We conquer care and painF
It woos like woman's dewy lipG
-
To kiss and come againH
