There is my royal palace | D |
Within it my regal throne | E |
The former a grave of willows | F |
The latter a mossy stone | E |
And legends of hope did the willows tell | G |
To my childish ears in that rustic dell | G |

Here in my sunny childhood | H |
I dreamed in my mystic home | I |
Weaving the fairy garlands | F |
To wear in the years to come | J |
Friendship and love and honour | K |
They all were to be my own | E |
The future was strewn with roses | F |
As I dreamed on my mossy stone | E |
And still through the leaves as they fluttered or fell | G |
The breezes sang in the willow dell | G |

Visions of hope are departed | L |
Fairy like dreams have fled | M |
The thorns still remain but the roses | F |
Like friendship and love are dead | M |

And the breezes sound like a funeral knell | G |
As they sigh and sob through the willow dell | G |
