The Song Of The Sundowner Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EEEEFDFD GFGFCDCD HIHIJDJD

I'm the monarch of valley and hill and plainA
And the king of this golden landB
A continent broad is my vast domainA
And its people at my commandB
My tribute I levy on high and lowC
And I chuckle at Fortune's frownD
No matter how far in the day I goC
I'm at home when the sun goes downD
-
In the drought stricken plains of the lone ParooE
When the rainless earth is bareE
I take toll from the shepherd and jackerooE
And I sample their humble fareE
Not a fig care I though the stock may dieF
And the sun cracked plains be brownD
I can make for the east where the grass is highF
I'm at home when the sun goes downD
-
When river and creek their banks o'er leapG
And the flood rolls raging byF
When the settlers are mourning their crops and sheepG
I can watch them without a sighF
What matter to me if their fences goC
If their horses and cattle drownD
I can find a good meal when the sun is lowC
And a home when the sun goes downD
-
So I wander away at my own sweet willH
Be it northerly south or westI
When I'm hungry my paunch I can always fillH
When I'm tired I can always restI
I care not what others may do or thinkJ
I'm a monarch without a crown'D
I can always be sure of my food and drinkJ
And a home when the sun goes downD
