Farewell Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

As we travel Life's weary journeyA
And plod through the gathering yearsB
With our burdens of care and sorrowC
O'er a pathway bedewed with tearsD
If perchance for a fleeting momentE
Our hearts should with rapture swellF
We have added but one more sorrowC
When we bid the glad time FarewellF
-
I have watched the bright dawn awakingG
And noted each changing lightH
As the sun in its morning splendourC
Dispelled the dark gloom of nightH
I have welcomed its bright rays stealingG
Over hill top and wood and dellF
Yet my joy was alloyed with sorrowC
As I bade the bright stars FarewellF
-
I have seen the red sun descendingG
To its home in the glowing westI
Whilst the tremulous voice of natureC
Was solemnly lulled to restI
I have welcomed the stars appearingG
And greeted them one by oneJ
Yet my greeting was toned with sadnessK
As I said Farewell to the sunJ
-
When we welcome the summer sunshineL
Farewell to the flowers of SpringG
Adieu to the fruits of AutumnM
When we welcome the frosty kingG
Good bye to the joys of childhoodN
When vigorous youth appearsB
Then a season of strife and turmoilO
And farewell to the vanished yearsB
-
I am sighing a farewell messageP
As I sit in the gathering gloomQ
Farewell to all earthly sorrowsR
Then rest in the silent tombQ
Farewell to the trees and flowersS
To mountain and stream and dellF
Farewell to the glorious sunlightH
To the moon and stars FarewellF
