The Copernican System Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDEEAAFFGGHHEEIJ KKLLCCMMNNFFOOLLPP

The Sun revolving on his axis turnsA
And with creative fire intensely burnsA
Impell'd by forcive air our Earth supremeB
Rolls with the planets round the solar gleamB
First Mercury completes his transient yearC
Glowing refulgent with reflected glareD
Bright Venus occupies a wider wayE
The early harbinger of night and dayE
More distant still our globe terraqueous turnsA
Nor chills intense nor fiercely heated burnsA
Around her rolls the lunar orb of lightF
Trailing her silver glories through the nightF
On the Earth's orbit see the various signsG
Mark where the Sun our year completing shinesG
First the bright Ram his languid ray improvesH
Next glaring watry thro' the Bull he movesH
The am'rous Twins admit his genial rayE
Now burning thro' the Crab he takes his wayE
The Lion flaming bears the solar powerI
The Virgin faints beneath the sultry show'rJ
Now the just Balance weighs his equal forceK
The slimy Serpent swelters in his courseK
The sabled Archer clouds his languid faceL
The Goat with tempests urges on his raceL
Now in the Wat'rer his faint beams appearC
And the cold Fishes end the circling yearC
Beyond our globe the sanguine Mars displaysM
A strong reflection of primoeval raysM
Next belted Jupiter far distant gleamsN
Scarcely enlighten'd with the solar beamsN
With four unfix'd receptacles of lightF
He tours majestic thro' the spacious heightF
But farther yet the tardy Saturn lagsO
And five attendant Luminaries dragsO
Investing with a double ring his paceL
He circles thro' immensity of spaceL
These are thy wondrous works first source of GoodP
Now more admir'd in being understoodP
