The Advice Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCBDDEFFE GGHIIH JKLMML NNOGGO PPJQQK RRSTUS VVWLLW

Revolving in their destin'd sphereA
The hours begin another yearA
As rapidly to flyB
Ah think Maria e'er in greyC
Those auburn tresses fade awayC
So youth and beauty dieB
Tho' now the captivating throngD
Adore with flattery and songD
And all before you bowE
Whilst unattentive to the strainF
You hear the humble muse complainF
Or wreathe your frowning browE
-
Tho' poor Pitholeon's feeble lineG
In opposition to the nineG
Still violates your nameH
Tho' tales of passion meanly toldI
As dull as Cumberland as coldI
Strive to confess a flameH
-
Yet when that bloom and dancing fireJ
In silver'd rev'rence shall expireK
Aged wrinkled and defacedL
To keep one lover's flame aliveM
Requires the genius of a CliveM
With Walpole's mental tasteL
-
Tho' rapture wantons in your airN
Tho' beyond simile you're fairN
Free affable sereneO
Yet still one attribute divineG
Should in your composition shineG
Sincerity I meanO
-
Tho' num'rous swains before you fallP
'Tis empty admiration allP
'Tis all that you requireJ
How momentary are their chainsQ
Like you how unsincere the strainsQ
Of those who but admireK
-
Accept for once advice from meR
And let the eye of censure seeR
Maria can be trueS
No more for fools or empty beauxT
Heav'n's representatives discloseU
Or butterflies pursueS
-
Fly to your worthiest lover's armsV
To him resign your swelling charmsV
And meet his gen'rous breastW
Or if Pitholeon suits your tasteL
His muse with tattr'd fragments gracedL
Shall read your cares to restW
