Sly Dick Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEDDFFGGHIJJ KKLLMMNNOOPPJJLLLLQQ

Sharp was the frost the wind was highA
And sparkling stars bedeckt the skyA
Sly Dick in arts of cunning skill'dB
Whose rapine all his pockets fill'dB
Had laid him down to take his restC
And soothe with sleep his anxious breastC
'Twas thus a dark infernal spriteD
A native of the blackest nightD
Portending mischief to deviseE
Upon Sly Dick he cast his eyesE
Then straight descends the infernal spriteD
And in his chamber does alightD
In visions he before him standsF
And his attention he commandsF
Thus spake the sprite hearken my friendG
And to my counsels now attendG
Within the garret's spacious domeH
There lies a well stor'd wealthy roomI
Well stor'd with cloth and stockings tooJ
Which I suppose will do for youJ
First from the cloth take thou a purseK
For thee it will not be the worseK
A noble purse rewards thy painsL
A purse to hold thy filching gainsL
Then for the stockings let them reeveM
And not a scrap behind thee leaveM
Five bundles for a penny sellN
And pence to thee will come pell mellN
See it be done with speed and careO
Thus spake the sprite and sunk in airO
When in the morn with thoughts erectP
Sly Dick did on his dreams reflectP
Why faith thinks he 'tis something tooJ
It might perhaps it might be trueJ
I'll go and see away he hiesL
And to the garret quick he fliesL
Enters the room cuts up the clothesL
And after that reeves up the hoseL
Then of the cloth he purses madeQ
Purses to hold his filching tradeQ
