Almighty Framer of the SkiesA
O let our pure devotion riseA
Like Incense in thy SightB
Wrapt in impenetrable ShadeC
The Texture of our Souls were madeC
Till thy Command gave lightB
The Sun of Glory gleam'd the RayD
Refin'd the Darkness into DayD
And bid the Vapours flyE
Impell'd by his eternal LoveF
He left his Palaces aboveF
To cheer our gloomy SkyE
-
How shall we celebrate the dayD
When God appeared in mortal clayD
The mark of worldly scornG
When the Archangel's heavenly LaysH
Attempted the Redeemer's PraiseH
And hail'd Salvation's MornG
-
-
A Humble Form the Godhead woreI
The Pains of Poverty he boreI
To gaudy Pomp unknownJ
Tho' in a human walk he trodK
Still was the Man Almighty GodK
In Glory all his ownJ
-
Despis'd oppress'd the Godhead bearsL
The Torments of this Vale of tearsL
Nor bade his Vengeance riseA
He saw the Creatures he had madeC
Revile his Power his Peace invadeC
He saw with Mercy's EyesA
-
How shall we celebrate his NameM
Who groan'd beneath a Life of shameM
In all Afflictions triedN
The Soul is raptured to concieveF
A Truth which Being must believeF
The God Eternal diedN
-
My Soul exert thy Powers adoreI
Upon Devotion's plumage sarO
To celebrate the DayD
The God from whom Creation sprungP
Shall animate my grateful TongueP
From him I'll catch the LayD
