Triumphal arch that fill'st the sky	A
When storms prepare to part	B
I ask not proud Philosophy	C
To teach me what thou art	B

Still seem as to my childhood's sight	D
A midway station given	E
For happy spirits to alight	D
Betwixt the earth and heaven	E

Can all that Optics teach unfold	F
Thy form to please me so	G
As when I dreamt of gems and gold	F
Hid in thy radiant bow	H

When Science from Creation's face	I
Enchantment's veil withdraws	J
What lovely visions yield their place	I
To cold material laws	J

And yet fair bow no fabling dreams	K
But words of the Most High	A
Have told why first thy robe of beams	K
Was woven in the sky	A

When o'er the green undeluged earth	L
Heaven's covenant thou didst shine	M
How came the world's gray fathers forth	N
To watch thy sacred sign	M

And when its yellow luster smiled	O
O'er mountains yet untrod	O
Each mother held aloft her child	O
To bless the bow of God	O

Methinks thy jubilee to keep	P
The first made anthem rang	Q
On earth delivered from the deep	P
And the first poet sang	Q

Nor ever shall the Muse's eye	A
Unraptured greet thy beam	R
Theme of primeval prophecy	C
Be still the prophet's theme	R

The earth to thee her incense yields	S
The lark thy welcome sings	T
When glittering in the freshened fields	S
The snowy mushroom springs	T

How glorious is thy girdle cast	O
O'er mountain tower and town	U
Or mirrored in the ocean vast	O
