Wizard LochielA
-
WizardB
Lochiel Lochiel beware of the dayC
When the Lowlands shall meet thee in battle arrayC
For a field of the dead rushes red on my sightD
And the clans of Culloden are scattered in fightD
They rally they bleed for their kingdom and crownE
Woe woe to the riders that trample them downE
Proud Cumberland prances insulting the slainF
And their hoof beaten bosoms are trod to the plainF
But hark through the fast flashing lightning of warG
What steed to the desert flies frantic and farH
'Tis thine Oh Glenullin whose bride shall awaitI
Like a love lighted watch fire all night at the gateI
A steed comes at morning no rider is thereJ
But its bridle is rd with the sign of despairJ
Weep Albin to death and captivity ledK
Oh weep but thy tears cannot number the deadK
For a merciless sword on Culloden shall waveL
Culloden that reeks with the blood of the braveL

LochielA
Go preach to the coward thou death telling seerM
Or if gory Culloden so dreadful appearN
Draw dotard around thy old wavering sightD
This mantle to cover the phantoms of frightD

WizardB
Ha laugh'st thou Lochiel my vision to scornO
Proud bird of the mountain thy plume shall be tornO
Say rushed the bold eagle exultingly forthP
From his home in the dark rolling clouds of the northP
Lo the death shot of foemen outspeeding he rodeQ
Companionless bearing destruction abroadR
But down let him stoop from his havoc on highS
Ah home let him speed for the spoiler is nighS
Why flames the far summit Why shoot to the blastT
Those embers like stars from the firmament castT
'Tis the fire shower of ruin all dreadfully drivenU
From his eyry that beacons the darkness of heavenU
Oh crested Lochiel the peerless in mightD
Whose banners arise on the battlement's heightD
Heaven's fire is around thee to blast and to burnV
Return to thy dwelling all lonely returnV
For the blackness of ashes shall mark where it stoodW
And a wild mother scream o'er her famishing broodX

LochielA
False wizard avaunt I have marshalled my clanY
Their swords are a thousand their bosoms are oneU
They are true to the last of their blood and their breathZ
And like reapers descend to the harvest of deathZ
Then welcome be Cumberland's steed to the shockA2
Let him dash his proud foam like a wave on the rockA2
But woe to his kindred and woe to his causeB2
When Albin her claymore indignantly drawsC2
When her bonnetted chieftains to victory crowdD2
Clanranald the dauntless and Moray the proudD2
All plaided and plumed in their tartan arrayC

Lochiel Lochiel beware of the dayC
For dark and despairing my sight I may sealA
But man cannot cover what God would revealA
'Tis the sunset of life gives me mystical loreG
And coming events cast their shadow beforeG
I tell thee Culloden's dread echoes shall ringE2
With the bloodhounds that bark for thy fugitive kingE2
Lo annointed by Heaven with the vials of wrathF2
Behold where he flies on his desolate pathF2
Now in darkness and billows he sweeps from my sightD
Rise rise ye wild tempests and cover his flightD
'Tis finished Their thunders are hushed on the moorsG2
Culloden is lost and my country deploresH2
But where is the iron bound prisoner WhereJ
For the red eye of battle is shut in despairJ
Say mounts he the ocean wave banished forlornO
Like a limb from his country cast bleeding and tornO
Ah no for a darker departure is nearN
The war drum is muffled and black is the bierM
His death bell is tolling oh mercy dispelA
Yon sight that it freezes my spirit to tellA
Life flutters convulsed in his quivering limbsI2
And his blood streaming nostril in agony swimsI2
Accursed be the fagots that blaze at his feetJ2
Where his heart shall be thrown ere it ceases to beatJ2
With the smoke of its ashes to poison the galeA
-
-
LochielA
Down soothless insulter I trust not the taleA
Though my perishing ranks should be strewed in their goreG
Like ocean weeds heaped on the surf beaten shoreG
Lochiel untainted by flight or by chainsK2
While the kindling of life in his bosom remainsK2
Shall victor exult or in death be laid lowA
With his back to the field and his feet to the foeA
And leaving in battle no blot on his nameL2
Look proudly to heaven from the death bed of fameL2
