Lines - On The Camp Hill, Near Hastings Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEG HIHI JKJK LMLM

In the deep blue of eveA
Ere the twinkling of stars had begunB
Or the lark took his leaveA
Of the skies and the sweet setting sunB
-
I climbed to yon heightsC
Where the Norman encamped him of oldD
With his bowmen and knightsC
And his banner all burnished with goldD
-
At the Conqueror's sideE
There his minstrelsy sat harp in handF
In pavilion wideE
And they chaunted the deeds of RolandG
-
Still the ramparted groundH
With a vision my fancy inspiresI
And I hear the trump soundH
As it marshalled our Chivalry's siresI
-
On each turf of that meadJ
Stood the captors of England's domainsK
That ennobled her breedJ
And high mettled the blood of her veinsK
-
Over hauberk and helmL
As the sun's setting splendour was thrownM
Thence they looked o'er a realmL
And to morrow beheld it their ownM
