Rhyme Scheme: AABBBCDCEDETHOUGH gifts like thine the fates gave not to me | A |
One thing O Hafiz we both hold in fee | A |
Nay it holds us for when the June wind blows | B |
We both are slaves and lovers to the rose | B |
In vain the pale Circassian lily shows | B |
Her face at her green lattice and in vain | C |
The violet beckons with unveil d face | D |
The bosom s white the lip s light purple stain | C |
These touch our liking yet no passion stir | E |
But when the rose comes Hafiz in that place | D |
Where she stands smiling we kneel down to her | E |
