When all the panes are hung with frost | B |
Wild wizard work of silver lace | C |
I draw my sofa on the rug | D |
Before the ancient chimney place | C |
Upon the painted tiles are mosques | E |

As if within its ruddy core | J |
It held the happy heart of Spring | I |
Ferdousi never sang like that | K |
Nor Saadi grave nor Hafiz gay | L |
I lounge and blow white rings of smoke | M |
And watch them rise and float away | L |

The curling wreaths like turbans seem | N |
Of silent slaves that come and go | O |
Or Viziers packed with craft and crime | P |
Whom I behead from time to time | P |
With pipe stem at a single blow | O |
And now and then a lingering cloud | Q |
Takes gracious form at my desire | R |
And at my side my lady stands | G |
Unwinds her veil with snowy hands | G |
A shadowy shape a breath of fire | R |
- | |
O Love if you were only here | S |
Beside me in this mellow light | T |
Though all the bitter winds should blow | O |
And all the ways be choked with snow | O |
'Twould be a true Arabian night | T |
