Heredity Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHIH

A soldier of the Cromwell stampA
With sword and psalm book by his sideB
At home alike in church and campA
Austere he lived and smileless diedB
-
But she a creature soft and fineC
From Spain some say some say from FranceD
Within her veins leapt blood like wineC
She led her Roundhead lord a danceD
-
In Grantham church they lie asleepE
Just where the verger may not knowF
Strange that two hundred years should keepE
The old ancestral fires aglowF
-
In me these two have met againG
To each my nature owes a partH
To one the cool and reasoning brainI
To one the quick unreasoning heartH
