England Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDEFDEWhile men pay reverence to mighty things | A |
They must revere thee thou blue cinctured isle | B |
Of England not to day but this long while | B |
In front of nations Mother of great kings | A |
Soldiers and poets Round thee the sea flings | A |
His steel bright arm and shields thee from the guile | B |
And hurt of France Secure with august smile | B |
Thou sittest and the East its tribute brings | A |
Some say thy old time power is on the wane | C |
Thy moon of grandeur filled contracts at length | D |
They see it darkening down from less to less | E |
Let but a hostile hand make threat again | F |
And they shall see thee in thy ancient strength | D |
Each iron sinew quivering lioness | E |
