England Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDEFDE

While men pay reverence to mighty thingsA
They must revere thee thou blue cinctured isleB
Of England not to day but this long whileB
In front of nations Mother of great kingsA
Soldiers and poets Round thee the sea flingsA
His steel bright arm and shields thee from the guileB
And hurt of France Secure with august smileB
Thou sittest and the East its tribute bringsA
Some say thy old time power is on the waneC
Thy moon of grandeur filled contracts at lengthD
They see it darkening down from less to lessE
Let but a hostile hand make threat againF
And they shall see thee in thy ancient strengthD
Each iron sinew quivering lionessE
