Rhyme Scheme: ABBCADDCEFDEGDStand here and look and softly draw your breath | A |
Lest the dread avalanche come crashing down | B |
How many leagues away is yonder town | B |
Set flower wise in the valley Far beneath | C |
Out feet lies summer here a realm of death | A |
Where never flower has blossomed nor bird flown | D |
The ancient water courses are all strown | D |
With drifts of snow fantastic wreath on wreath | C |
And peak on peak against the stainless blue | E |
The Alps like towering campanili stand | F |
Wondrous with pinnacles of frozen rain | D |
Silvery crystal like the prism in hue | E |
O tell me love if this be Switzerland | G |
Or is it but the frost work on the pane | D |
