My Papa's Waltz Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED FGFG HIHI

The whiskey on your breathA
Could make a small boy dizzyB
But I hung on like deathA
Such waltzing was not easyB
-
We romped until the pansC
Slid from the kitchen shelfD
My mother's countenanceE
Could not unfrown itselfD
-
The hand that held my wristF
Was battered on one knuckleG
At every step you missedF
My right ear scraped a buckleG
-
You beat time on my headH
With a palm caked hard by dirtI
Then waltzed me off to bedH
Still clinging to your shirtI
