Journey Into The Interior Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGCHIEFFJCEC

In the long journey out of the selfA
There are many detours washed out interrupted raw placesB
Where the shale slides dangerouslyC
And the back wheels hang almost over the edgeD
At the sudden veering the moment of turningE
Better to hug close wary of rubble and falling stonesF
The arroyo cracking the road the wind bitten buttes the canyonsG
Creeks swollen in midsummer from the flash flood roaring into the narrow valleyC
Reeds beaten flat by wind and rainH
Grey from the long winter burnt at the base in late summerI
Or the path narrowingE
Winding upward toward the stream with its sharp stonesF
The upland of alder and birchtreesF
Through the swamp alive with quicksandJ
The way blocked at last by a fallen fir treeC
The thickets darkeningE
The ravines uglyC
