No ear has ever heard what l heard | B |
The cry of a baby | C |
But this one was quite unusual | D |
lt seemed to be echoing an unusual message | E |
What famine is this | F |
That caused even a day old baby | C |
To cry out l am hungry | C |
- | |
Then landed another cry in the ears of my heart | G |
lnterluding with the child's cry in a saddening chorus | H |
A weeping woman the baby's mother | I |
With torrents of tears | J |
Teetering down her cheeks | K |
She sought fellow women for comfort | L |
But to her own astonishment | M |
They were each wailing much louder than she was | N |
Their voices culminated to their sticking place | O |
And polluted the atmosphere | P |
With an acrid smell of grief | Q |
ln one swoop of the devil | D |
The once upon wives | R |
Had been turned into chanting widows | S |
Their husbands victims of the curse of war | T |
Amid the turmoil of mourning | U |
The preacher could hardly hear his morning sermon | A |
Blessed are the mourners for they shall be comforted | V |
- | |
Hark Listen | A |
No ear has ever heard what l heard | B |
Nor retina seen what l saw | W |
The eerie whistle | D |
Of another descending zeppelin | X |
Like the nocturnal owl | Y |
Gliding lowly and slowly | C |
Towards its complacent rodent prey | Z |
ln the light of darkness | H |
Talons resharpened and ready to sink | A2 |
lnto the depths of life | B2 |
So was the bomb | C2 |
As it flapped its wings in flight | D2 |
Toward uncertain target | E2 |
Which would otherwise be me or even you | F2 |
just but two numbers | G2 |
Amoung the inumerable armourless | G2 |
Powerless | G2 |
And hopeless civilians | G2 |
- | |
With my shadow as my only cover | I |
I enfolded my hands over my ears | G2 |
ln vain ofcause | G2 |
And sought refuge | H2 |
ln the darkness of closed eyes | G2 |
l could perceive | I2 |
That my facial expression | A |
Just like everyone else | G2 |
Defined fear very accurately | C |
l could discern everyone wished | J2 |
They had died when they had the chance | G2 |
To die in a better way | Z |
But a mere wish it was | G2 |
And so our eyes were obliged | K2 |
To see what they did not want to see | C |
And our ears to wait expectantly | C |
For a sound they were very unwelcoming | A2 |
- | |
Boooooooommm | C2 |
So fatal was the deafening explosion | A |
But the silence that followed was more deafening | A2 |
Than the explosion itself | L2 |
That for a while and a half | M2 |
One would gladly think | A2 |
Their long overdue wish | N2 |
To be translated from the land of the living | A2 |
Had finally been granted | O2 |
Everyone lied prostrate on the crumbled tarmac | A2 |
For a while longer | I |
But our mental illusion was interrupted | V |
By a far off faint cry of a horrified baby | C |
Slowly but surely | C |
l opened my eyelids | G2 |
One eyelid at a time | C2 |
And was greeted by the ghastly sight | D2 |
Of wounded and dead bodies | G2 |
Scattered helplessely | C |
All over the distorted terrain | P2 |
l was definately not dead | Q2 |
Not dead yet so to say | Z |
Because the worst was yet to ensue | G2 |
