Hark ListenA
No ear has ever heard what l heardB
The cry of a babyC
But this one was quite unusualD
lt seemed to be echoing an unusual messageE
What famine is thisF
That caused even a day old babyC
To cry out l am hungryC
-
Then landed another cry in the ears of my heartG
lnterluding with the child's cry in a saddening chorusH
A weeping woman the baby's motherI
With torrents of tearsJ
Teetering down her cheeksK
She sought fellow women for comfortL
But to her own astonishmentM
They were each wailing much louder than she wasN
Their voices culminated to their sticking placeO
And polluted the atmosphereP
With an acrid smell of griefQ
ln one swoop of the devilD
The once upon wivesR
Had been turned into chanting widowsS
Their husbands victims of the curse of warT
Amid the turmoil of mourningU
The preacher could hardly hear his morning sermonA
Blessed are the mourners for they shall be comfortedV
-
Hark ListenA
No ear has ever heard what l heardB
Nor retina seen what l sawW
The eerie whistleD
Of another descending zeppelinX
Like the nocturnal owlY
Gliding lowly and slowlyC
Towards its complacent rodent preyZ
ln the light of darknessH
Talons resharpened and ready to sinkA2
lnto the depths of lifeB2
So was the bombC2
As it flapped its wings in flightD2
Toward uncertain targetE2
Which would otherwise be me or even youF2
just but two numbersG2
Amoung the inumerable armourlessG2
PowerlessG2
And hopeless civiliansG2
-
With my shadow as my only coverI
I enfolded my hands over my earsG2
ln vain ofcauseG2
And sought refugeH2
ln the darkness of closed eyesG2
l could perceiveI2
That my facial expressionA
Just like everyone elseG2
Defined fear very accuratelyC
l could discern everyone wishedJ2
They had died when they had the chanceG2
To die in a better wayZ
But a mere wish it wasG2
And so our eyes were obligedK2
To see what they did not want to seeC
And our ears to wait expectantlyC
For a sound they were very unwelcomingA2
-
BoooooooommmC2
So fatal was the deafening explosionA
But the silence that followed was more deafeningA2
Than the explosion itselfL2
That for a while and a halfM2
One would gladly thinkA2
Their long overdue wishN2
To be translated from the land of the livingA2
Had finally been grantedO2
Everyone lied prostrate on the crumbled tarmacA2
For a while longerI
But our mental illusion was interruptedV
By a far off faint cry of a horrified babyC
Slowly but surelyC
l opened my eyelidsG2
One eyelid at a timeC2
And was greeted by the ghastly sightD2
Of wounded and dead bodiesG2
Scattered helplesselyC
All over the distorted terrainP2
l was definately not deadQ2
Not dead yet so to sayZ
Because the worst was yet to ensueG2
