The Dead At Clonmacnois Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDC EFGH IJBJ KKLM NOPO

From the Irish of Angus O'GillanA
-
-
In a quiet water'd land a land of rosesB
Stands Saint Kieran's city fairC
And the warriors of Erin in their famous generationsD
Slumber thereC
-
There beneath the dewy hillside sleep the noblestE
Of the clan of ConnF
Each below his stone with name in branching OghamG
And the sacred knot thereonH
-
There they laid to rest the seven Kings of TaraI
There the sons of Cairbr egrave sleepJ
Battle banners of the Gael that in Kieran's plain of crossesB
Now their final hosting keepJ
-
And in Clonmacnois they laid the men of TeffiaK
And right many a lord of BreaghK
Deep the sod above Clan Creid egrave and Clan ConaillL
Kind in hall and fierce in frayM
-
Many and many a son of Conn the Hundred FighterN
In the red earth lies at restO
Many a blue eye of Clan Colman the turf coversP
Many a swan white breastO
