Do not weep maiden for war is kindA
Because your lover threw wild hands toward the skyB
And the affrighted steed ran on aloneC
Do not weepD
War is kindA
-
Hoarse booming drums of the regimentE
Little souls who thirst for fightF
These men were born to drill and dieB
The unexplained glory flies above themG
Great is the battle god great and his kingdomH
A field where a thousand corpses lieB
-
Do not weep babe for war is kindA
Because your father tumbled in the yellow trenchesI
Raged at his breast gulped and diedJ
Do not weepD
War is kindA
-
Swift blazing flag of the regimentE
Eagle with crest of red and goldK
These men were born to drill and dieB
Point for them the virtue of slaughterL
Make plain to them the excellence of killingM
And a field where a thousand corpses lieB
-
Mother whose heart hung humble as a buttonN
On the bright splendid shroud of your sonN
Do not weepD
War is kindA
