Soldier, Rest! Thy Warfare O'er, Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDBDBACBB EBEBFGFGHEBB IJIGKBKBIIJG

Soldier rest thy warfare o'erA
Sleep the sleep that knows not breakingB
Dream of battled fields no moreC
Days of danger nights of wakingB
In our isle's enchanted hallD
Hands unseen thy couch are strewingB
Fairy strains of music fallD
Every sense in slumber dewingB
Soldier rest thy warfare o'erA
Dream of fighting fields no moreC
Sleep the sleep that knows not breakingB
Morn of toil nor night of wakingB
-
No rude sound shall reach thine earE
Armour's clang or war steed champingB
Trump nor pibroch summon hereE
Mustering clan or squadron trampingB
Yet the lark's shrill fife may comeF
At the day break from the fallowG
And the bittern sound his drumF
Booming from the sedgy shallowG
Ruder sounds shall none be nearH
Guards nor warders challenge hereE
Here's no war steed's neigh and champingB
Shouting clans or squadrons stampingB
-
Huntsman rest thy chase is doneI
While our slumbrous spells assail yeJ
Dream not with the rising sunI
Bugles here shall sound reveillG
Sleep the deer is in his denK
Sleep thy hounds are by thee lyingB
Sleep nor dream in yonder glenK
How thy gallant steed lay dyingB
Huntsman rest thy chase is doneI
Think not of the rising sunI
For at dawning to assail yeJ
Here no bugles sound reveillG
