Christmas Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDEFGHI JJKLMMNNOOPPQQRRMMSS

The glowing censers and their rich perfumeA
The splendid vestments and the sounding choirB
The gentle sigh of soul subduing pietyC
The alms which open hearted charityC
Bestows with kindly glance and thoseD
Which e'en stern avariceE
Though with unwilling handF
Seems forced to tender an offering sweetG
To the bright throne of mercy markH
This day a festivalI
-
And well our Christian sires of oldJ
Loved when the year its course had roll'dJ
And brought blithe Christmas back againK
With all its hospitable trainL
Domestic and religious riteM
Gave honour to the holy nightM
On Christmas eve the bells were rungN
On Christmas eve the mass was sungN
That only night in all the yearO
Saw the stoled priest the chalice rearO
The damsel donn'd her Kirtle sheenP
The hall was dress'd with holly greenP
Then open'd wide the baron's hallQ
To vassal tenant serf and allQ
Power laid his rod of rule asideR
And ceremony doff'd his prideR
All hail'd with uncontroll'd delightM
And general voice the happy nightM
That to the cottage as the crownS
Brought tidings of salvation downS
