Now what is Love I pray thee tellA
It is that fountain and that wellA
Where pleasure and repentance dwellA
It is perhaps the sauncing bellA
That tolls all into heaven or hellA
And this is Love as I hear tellA
-
Yet what is Love I prithee sayB
It is a work on holidayB
It is December matched with MayB
When lusty bloods in fresh arrayB
Hear ten months after of the playB
And this is Love as I hear sayB
-
Yet what is Love good shepherd sainC
It is a sunshine mixed with rainC
It is a toothache or like painC
It is a game where none hath gainC
The lass saith no yet would full fainC
And this is Love as I hear sainC
-
Yet shepherd what is Love I prayB
It is a yes it is a nayB
A pretty kind of sporting frayB
It is a thing will soon awayB
Then nymphs take vantage while ye mayB
And this is Love as I hear sayB
-
Yet what is Love good shepherd showD
A thing that creeps it cannot goD
A prize that passeth to and froD
A thing for one a thing for moeD
And he that proves shall find it soD
And shepherd this is Love I trowD
