As you came from the holy landA
Of WalsinghamB
Met you not with my true loveC
By the way as you cameB
-
How shall I know your true loveC
That have met many oneD
I went to the holy landA
That have come that have goneE
-
She is neither white nor brownF
But as the heavens fairG
There is none hath a form so divineH
In the earth or the airG
-
Such a one did I meet good sirI
Such an angelic faceJ
Who like a queen like a nymph did appearK
By her gait by her graceJ
-
She hath left me here all aloneL
All alone as unknownL
Who sometimes did me lead with herselfM
And me loved as her ownL
-
What's the cause that she leaves you aloneL
And a new way doth takeN
Who loved you once as her ownL
And her joy did you makeN
-
I have lov'd her all my youthO
But now old as you seeP
Love likes not the falling fruitQ
From the withered treeP
-
Know that Love is a careless childR
And forgets promise pastS
He is blind he is deaf when he listT
And in faith never fastS
-
His desire is a dureless contentU
And a trustless joyV
He is won with a world of despairG
And is lost with a toyV
-
Of womenkind such indeed is the loveC
Or the word love abus'dW
Under which many childish desiresX
And conceits are excus'dW
-
But true love is a durable fireI
In the mind ever burningY
Never sick never old never deadZ
From itself never turningY
