My lute awake perform the lastA
Labour that thou and I shall wasteB
And end that I have now begunC
For when this song is said and pastA
My lute be still for I have doneC
-
As to be heard where ear is noneC
As lead to grave in marble stoneD
My song may pierce her heart as soonE
Should we then sing or sigh or moanD
No no my lute for I have doneC
-
The rocks do not so cruellyF
Repulse the waves continuallyF
As she my suit and affecti ograve nG
So that I am past remedyF
Whereby my lute and I have doneC
-
Proud of the spoil that thou hast gotH
Of simple hearts thorough Love's shotH
By whom unkind thou hast them wonC
Think not he hath his bow forgotH
Although my lute and I have doneC
-
Vengeance shall fall on thy disdainI
That makest but game of earnest painI
Trow not alone under the sunC
Unquit to cause thy lover's plainI
Although my lute and I have doneC
-
May chance thee lie wither'd and oldJ
The winter nights that are so coldJ
Plaining in vain unto the moonE
Thy wishes then dare not be toldJ
Care then who list for I have doneC
-
And then may chance thee to repentK
The time that thou has lost and spentK
To cause thy lover's sigh and swoonE
Then shalt thou know beauty but lentK
And wish and want as I have doneC
-
Now cease my lute this is the lastA
Labour that thou and I shall wasteB
And ended is that we begunC
Now is this song both sung and pastA
My lute be still for I have doneC
