The Fair Hills Of Ireland Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCDCEEEF GCGCEEEF HCHCEEEF

From the IrishA
-
-
A plenteous place is Ireland for hospitable cheerB
Uileacan dubh OC
Where the wholesome fruit is bursting from the yellow barley earD
Uileacan dubh OC
There is honey in the trees where her misty vales expandE
And her forest paths in summer are by falling waters fann'dE
There is dew at high noontide there and springs i' the yellow sandE
On the fair hills of holy IrelandF
-
Curl'd he is and ringleted and plaited to the kneeG
Uileacan dubh OC
Each captain who comes sailing across the Irish SeaG
Uileacan dubh OC
And I will make my journey if life and health but standE
Unto that pleasant country that fresh and fragrant strandE
And leave your boasted braveries your wealth and high commandE
For the fair hills of holy IrelandF
-
Large and profitable are the stacks upon the groundH
Uileacan dubh OC
The butter and the cream do wondrously aboundH
Uileacan dubh OC
The cresses on the water and the sorrels are at handE
And the cuckoo 's calling daily his note of music blandE
And the bold thrush sings so bravely his song i' the forests grandE
On the fair hills of holy IrelandF
