Sonnet 40: As Good To Write Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA ABBA CCD CCD

As good to write as for to lie and groanA
Oh Stella dear how much thy power hath wroughtB
That hast my mind none of the basest broughtB
My still kept course while others sleep to moanA
-
Alas if from the height of Virtue's throneA
Thou canst vouchsafe the influence of a thoughtB
Upon a wretch that long thy grace hath soughtB
Weigh then how I by thee am overthrownA
-
And then think thus although thy beauty beC
Made manifest by such a victoryC
Yet noblest conquerors do wrecks avoidD
-
Since then thou hast so far subdued meC
That in my heart I offer still to theeC
Oh do not let thy Temple be destroyedD
