The mann whose thoughtes agaynste him do conspyreA
One whom Mishapp her storye dothe depayntB
The mann of woe the matter of desierA
Free of the dead that lives in endles plaintB
His spirit am I whiche in this deserte lyeC
To rue his case whose cause I cannot flyeC
-
-
Despayre my name whoe never findes releifeD
Frended of none but to my selfe a foeD
An idle care mayntaynde by firme beleifeD
That prayse of faythe shall throughe my torments groweD
And counte those hopes that others hartes do easeE
Butt base conceites the common sense to pleaseE
-
-
For sure I am I never shall attayneF
The happy good from whence my joys aryseE
Nor haue I powre my sorrows to refrayneF
But wayle the wante when noughte ellse maye suffyseE
Whereby my lyfe the shape of deathe muste beareA
That deathe which feeles the worst that lyfe doth feareA
-
-
But what auayles withe tragicall complaynteB
Not hopinge healpe the Furyes to awakeG
Or why shoulde I the happy mynds aquaynteB
With doleful tunnes theire settled peace to shakeG
All ye that here behoulde Infortune's feareA
May judge noe woe may withe my gref compareA
