Upon Eckington Bridge, River Avon Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDFFG HIHIJKJLLM NLNLOPOOOP

O pastoral heart of England like a psalmA
Of green days telling with a quiet beatB
O wave into the sunset flowing calmC
O tir d lark descending on the wheatB
Lies it all peace beyond the western foldD
Where now the lingering shepherd sees his starE
Rise upon Malvern Paints an Age of GoldD
Yon cloud with prophecies of link d easeF
Lulling this Land with hills drawn up like kneesF
To drowse beside her implements of warG
-
Man shall outlast his battles They have sweptH
Avon from Naseby Field to Savern HamI
And Evesham's dedicated stones have stepp'dH
Down to the dust with Montfort's oriflammeI
Nor the red tear nor the reflected towerJ
Abides but yet these elegant grooves remainK
Worn in the sandstone parapet hour by hourJ
By labouring bargemen where they shifted ropesL
E'en so shall men turn back from violent hopesL
To Adam's cheer and toil with spade againM
-
Ay and his mother Nature to whose lapN
Like a repentant child at length he hiesL
Nor in the whirlwind or the thunder clapN
Proclaims her more tremendous mysteriesL
But when in winter's grave bereft of lightO
With still small voice divinelier whisperingP
Lifting the green head of the aconiteO
Feeding with sap of hope the hazel shootO
She feels God's finger active at the rootO
Turns in her sleep and murmurs of the SpringP
