By A C SA
The Centuries kiss and commingleB
Cling clasp and are knit in a chainC
No cycle but scorns to be singleB
No two but demur to be twainC
'Till the land of the lute and the love taleD
Be bride of the boreal breastE
And the dawn with the darkness shall dovetailD
The East with the WestE
The desire of the grey for the dun nightsF
Is that of the dun for the greyG
The tales of the Thousand and One NightsF
Touch lips with 'The Times' of to dayG
Come chasten the cheap with the classicH
Choose Churton thy chair and thy classI
Mix melt in the must that is MassicH
The beer that is BassI
Omnipotent age of the AoristG
Infinitely freely exactG
As the fragrance of fiction is fairestG
If frayed in the furnace of factG
Though nine be the Muses in numberJ
There is hope if the handbook be oneK
Dispelling the planets that cumberJ
The path of the sunK
Though crimson thy hands and thy hood beL
With the blood of a brother betrayedG
O Would be Professor of Would beL
We call thee to bless and to aidG
Transmuted would travel with Er seeL
The Land of the Rolling of LogsM
Charmed chained to thy side as to CirceM
The Ithacan hogsM
O bourne of the black and the godlyL
O land where the good niggers goH
With the books that are borrowed of BodleyL
Old moons and our castaway clo'L
There there till the roses be ripenedG
Rebuke us revile and reviewN
Then take thee thine annual stipendG
So long over dueN
