The Heritage Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFGHFG

Cry out on Time that he may take awayA
Your cold philosophies that give no hintB
Of spirit quickened flesh fall down and prayA
That Death come never with a face of flintB
Death is our heritage with Life we shareC
The sunlight that must own his darkening hourD
Within his very presence yet we dareC
To gather gladness like a fading flowerD
-
For even as this our joy not long may liveE
Perfect and most in change the heart can traceF
The miracle of life and human thingsG
All we have held to destiny we giveH
Dawn glimmers on the soul forsaken faceF
Not we but others hear the bird that singsG
