The Effect Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AB CCDDEE CFFCFG HIHIJJ

The effect of our bombardment was terrific One manA
told me he had never seen so many dead before War CorrespondentB
-
He'd never seen so many dead beforeC
They sprawled in yellow daylight while he sworeC
And gasped and lugged his everlasting loadD
Of bombs along what once had been a roadD
How peaceful are the deadE
Who put that silly gag in some one's headE
-
He'd never seen so many dead beforeC
The lilting words danced up and down his brainF
While corpses jumped and capered in the rainF
No no he wouldn't count them any moreC
The dead have done with painF
They've choked they can't come back to life againG
-
When Dick was killed last week he looked like thatH
Flapping along the fire step like a fishI
After the blazing crump had knocked him flatH
How many dead As many as ever you wishI
Don't count 'em they're too manyJ
Who'll buy my nice fresh corpses two a pennyJ
