They fidgeted and shuffled yawned and sighed | I |
And boggled at my questions Joy was slack | H |
And Wisdom gnawed his fingers gloomy eyed | I |
Young Fancy how I loved him all the while | J |
Stared at his note book with a rueful smile | J |

Their training done I shipped them all to France | K |
Where most of those I'd loved too well got killed | L |
Rapture and pale Enchantment and Romance | K |
And many a sickly slender lord who'd filled | L |
My soul long since with lutanies of sin | M |
Went home because they couldn't stand the din | M |

But the kind common ones that I despised | N |
Hardly a man of them I'd count as friend | O |
What stubborn hearted virtues they disguised | N |
They stood and played the hero to the end | O |
Won gold and silver medals bright with bars | P |
And marched resplendent home with crowns and stars | P |
