Attack Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABACBDCDEFFE

At dawn the ridge emerges massed and dunA
In the wild purple of the glowering sunA
Smouldering through spouts of drifting smoke that shroudB
The menacing scarred slope and one by oneA
Tanks creep and topple forward to the wireC
The barrage roars and lifts Then clumsily bowedB
With bombs and guns and shovels and battle gearD
Men jostle and climb to meet the bristling fireC
Lines of grey muttering faces masked with fearD
They leave their trenches going over the topE
While time ticks blank and busy on their wristsF
And hope with furtive eyes and grappling fistsF
Flounders in mud O Jesu make it stopE
